Never been a big fan of growing annual gardens. Comes from a lifetime of planting crops every winter like wheat and barley. When I setup my AP beds I will be biasing plantings strongly on perennial vegetable plants eg chicories instead of annual lettuces, lebanese cress, warrigal greens instead of annual spinach etc. Is anyone else on the perennial train and what experiences can you share before I finish designing my beds? Are there any plants that stand out as good all year performers? Many thanks

There are a few that I find great for continual picking such as celery, silverbeet, chives, garlic chives and parsley, they last for ages and you just get to keep on harvesting.

I haven't dared to plant it in a AP GB, but rainbow chard grows all year round in my dirt beds. It can get more than a metre high after a couple of years, and seeds prolifically. I'm always trying to give away the new seedlings in autumn.

Do perennial plants cause problem with binding up you media in the GB?, would it be wiser to pull plants out and re sow?
