How do you keep Swiss Chard growing year round? Does it grow better in shade, part shade, some sun, full sun? Very hot here in Thailand. Does it grow better in pots, dirt garden, or AP? Thanks, John |

In tropical climates I think the best time to grow is in winter |

Not sure about Thailand, but in Perth ive been able to grow chard all year round. Ive had great success in the ground, however the AP ones are going very well, and I think AP would be the best for our hot dry summers. |

After just returning from a holiday in thailand I would think you could get it to grow year round maybe with a bit of shade cloth... More to protect it from downpours rather than the sun |

I grow in ground in hawaii, the aquaponics cannot do better in my system then the ground is doing. Full Sun |

We grow it all year round, and plenty of seedlings come up every autumn. I've given away excess seedlings before, and they transplant well. All our plants grow in full sun, in raised dirt beds. |

When I started this thread I had many plants in pots about ready for transplanting. I put them all into the ground in direct sun and water well at least once a day. I have harvested twice so far and tomorrow will be the third harvest. So far I have not tried them in AP. I don't have my system up and running yet. |

Bythebrook, do you mean that the chard just goes to seed at it's time to do so and that the seeds fall on the ground and then germinate by themselves? If that's the way it works, wonderful. I have been trying to figure out how to save seeds from different plants since I have never done so before. In a hot place like Thailand, when will the chard go to seed? |

I have found that other things like to eat my chard too - what is best way to control or get rid of pest that eat the chard. |

Yes, we have a carpet of chard seedlings without any human intervention. Unfortunately it doesn't help with rotating crops! |
