Post subject:  Leafy green for shady spots

I read that most leafy green do better in shade or party shade? I have a spot that gets 2-3 hours of sun, bright but shady rest of the time. May I assume that will be perfect for leafy green? I would like to grow lettuce, bokchoi, spinach, celery and some other Asian veges. Since all those plants are short, may I again assume their root system are shallow as well? Can I get away with a shallower grow bed like 8" or so?

Thanks for helping.

I've had good luck with spinach, chard/silverbeat, basil, chives (all herbs in fact) spring onion, beetroot
