I think I remember those days Charlie, from memory you were planning on a mega fish load and we were very concerned for the safety of your fish. Long time ago now.

I have used worm tea(has molasses in it) + Dish soap for soil gardens and worked great but for Aquapoincs, i would agree with faye, would need to make sure it was a fish safe soap...I wouldn't even know where to start looking for that. I have seen dawn commercials talking about how they use it to clean animals after oil spills...cant be that bad for environment? |

Hi Faye, just thought I would post the topic.. I got my hands on MH video's and he gave that recipe.. I want to get other people thought's.. Murray uses a drop or 2 as a wetting agent for the sprayers..[Leaf spraying..] He does warn about getting the mix into the fish tank.. Juergen |

Everyday we are dealing with people new to both keeping fish and new to aquaponics and that is where I am coming from. Many of you have got commonsense and that is becoming a rare gift these days. I do not recommend using oil or soaps and detergent anywhere near fish, because it poses a risk. If I did then someone comes back to me and says my fish died how can I ever separate what the cause was. A couple of drops may turn in to a dollop or an overdose and then it rains and washes in to the tank. Mmmm what then? How many of you actually follow the measurements on the seasol bottle or chelated iron for that matter. I know of people that have changed the colour of their water using chelated iron, now that was not a measured dose. I always say people can do whatever they want, but I don't recommend it becasue I do not want to see people get in to trouble. We try very hard to give accurate, free information so that others can enjoy success. There are many ways to combat pests that is also safe for our fish, why not try them? |

So the story is.. Leave the Soap out of the system.. I think every one needs to watch Murray's Video.. and take the information WITH a HUGE pinch of Salt.. I know that some of the information I saw was an eye opener, and left me with a lot of question's.. Juergen |

Spot on Faye... One of the many who have fallen victim to the 1 fish per 10L mumbo jumbo. Thankfully I was rescued.

Ok, so we know that a few drops of dish soap will kill all the fish? Because compost tea as a insecticide wont work as well with out it. I am coming from the soil side of gardening here with zero experience with fish. |

Ive got a major white fly problem, I tried everything, safer soap at high concentrated levels, dish soap, garlic soap concoctions, lady bugs, no pest control strips, vacuum cleaner, high dosages of worm tea spray.. So far nothing has helped me, and my fish never got sick from all that garbage.. Im at a loss, im going to call the community college agriculture department to see if they can help..

Apparently a yellow piece of something covered in motor oil will killlify them. Even a yellow cup with motor oil in it (obviously don't let it get into the grow bed or fish tank!) Forgot to mention, I got like 6 sticky yellow white fly traps, it does not even slightly dent the population I vacuumed like a 1000 whiteflys today, beleive me tomorrow when i shake my plants youd think i didnt vacuum them at all....
