Is it better to use a timed f&d or constant flood for growing Pepper plants in gravel media?

I remember that one did better than the other in the BYAP trial, just not sure which one it was now.

I have a birds eye chilli plant that was in soil out the front which looked like a stick with 2 leaves on it 2 months ago, 2 months in flood and drain and its gone balistic few chillis on it and about 200 flowers coming on, couldn't tell you how constant flood would go though

I thought you meant a pepper plant as in black pepper.. So what do you people in the US call a pepper (pepper corns) plant?

As far as which is best, I don;t know, I've seen all types work well for bell peppers..

I am sorry for the breakdown in communication Earthbound. I meant bell peppers and any kind of sweet peppers or spicy peppers.

I've never seen a pepper corn plant, maybe they're too exotic to grow here?

I was just wondering how hard a pepper corn plant would be to grow yesterday... I might look into it tomorrow.

A guy grows them in town here
He used to sell the vines now he just sells the peppercorns (for a lot)
They prefer tropics but he does ok in subtropics.
Would love to get some vines.

Post subject:  Re: Pepper plant

those americans call them peppers :D his location was the give away to weither it was pepper or capsicums/chillis. Anyway to continue on from my earlier post I have found that older plants do much much better than young plants in ap, When you first put them in they go through heavy shock then they start to come good I have a few capsicum seedlings which i planted 6 months ago and they look nothing like my birds eye chilli plant but they are fruiting.

I have Piper nigrum growing in soil at the moment in SE Qld. Looking forward to moving some across to a grow bed. Not a great crop after three years and not a great amount of growth either.

I have them growing in both CF and F&D and there is no real difference in the plants. Seem happy in both setups and fruiting well.
