Post subject:  Frequency of watering soilless plantings

Hello. I hope this is in the right place. I am still new here.

I have planted in a mixture of coco coir (chunks) and rice hulls. I water with water from my pond. How many times a day should I water the beds? How do I tell if I am watering too much or not enough?

The second question is: I have made up soilless potting medium which is one part of each of manure(goat), coco coir (powder), and rice hulls. How often per day should I water these. I am planting tomatoes in pots with this mixture.

Thank you, John

Hi John, thats going to depend on quite a few factors, two of the main ones are the size and type of the plants and also the weather. Tomatoes use quite a lot of water when the plants get large.
