hi
im still picking duckweed out off my teeth. i remembered today when a tiny leaf turned out that i used to have a type called lemna gibbia(aka lemna major) it had huge leaves and a red underside would probably make better eating. i have put some of my azzola in clean water . will give it a day or two and give that a try.

what do you guys recon
my azolla barrel has had hay in it to feed my dapnia (as hay rots daphnia blooms) if i remove the azolla could i just wash and eat or would it need sometime on fresh water to purge it. my duckweed was on my guppy tank and it is well maintained so i would happily drink the water.

I think it would definately work on pizza sprinkled lightly like a herb.

Though not fit for human consumption, I'd want to know why...

If you die we can't pick your brains (or your teeth)

Doh! I'm sure that's what I read but no I went back and I was wrong.

I think I found some today. I brought it home. Wee little leaves with roots hanging off them floating in a container. Now I gotta read the thread and get with the programme.

how many verieties are there of duckweed - while at Paradise Aquafarm today I saw that their purging pond was covered in what looked like green scum, but on closer inspection it was covered in a matt of zillions of TINY little green plants, each about the size of a pin prick - any ideas as to what it is?

That's duckweed. They are the baby plants that get thrown from the adults.

There are about 40 species of duckweed.

In Far North Queensland, there's one of the Wolffia subspecies of duckweed which is native to Australia. It can be found in several of the rivers around the Cairns area.

It's about 1mm across and I think it would make superb fish food. It's also the logical plant for you to use given that you know it grows prolifically in your area.

The small ones are the 'usual duckweed' - they are just the baby ones.
