I added these photos of my spring onions to my system thread and got the heads up they are onion aphids, but thought i would add them to this thread for future reference, removed heaps by hand and then sprayed with Chili and Garlic.

If you cut off the onion shoot to ground level it will regrow and minimise the infestation at the same time by not harboring them. A spray with worm juice or seaweed extract in water helps too.

Cheers Faye, i will take them off just above the media tomorrow arvo and keep a good eye on the Garlic, i even have a bladder of seasol laying around somewhere.

Sprayed my onion aphids with molasses spray tonight, so will see how that goes

how did you go with the Aphids?? I am having some real issues with the Onion Aphids on my shallots and leeks and another green aphid on my Chinese cabbage, Eco Oil and Molasses dont seem to be helping.

after chili and garlic spray, cutting the onions off, removing the aphids by hand then spraying with chili and garlic again they where still there when i left for sunday morning but had also moved onto my garlic, hopefully they don't do to much damage before i get back on Saturday. any other ideas?

Im going to try the seasol tomorrow, will let you know how that goes. I read at the beginning of this thread that it works?? actually kills them??

Molasses spray got rid of mine

Well i tried picking them off, squashing etc but they kept coming back stronger.
I sprayed with Eco Oil but it did nothing except make the place smell nice.
I sprayed with molasses (approx 20:1 water : molasses) but that did nothing except make everything a bit sticky.
I sprayed with seasol (approx 20:1 water : seasol) a few days ago but again the aphids seem to be doing alright.

All i have left up my sleeve at this point is a milk spay and or a Garlic Chillie Spray.

Are my ratios alright??? i just made them up didnt get them from anywhere.

So i still have onion aphids, used straight seasol on them today and went to bunnings and got some marigolds that are already in flower and a dill plant (if you cant beat them try and attract a bigger bug)

Mantis how did you make up your molasses spray,

Just a small bit of molasses in a spray bottle. Very diluted

Not sure if they're onion aphids like in the previous pics, but I got a whole heap of these on the underside of one of my plants. Can someone identify if they're bad or good?

looks like another breed of aphid, i have the onion ones on my shallots and the green ones on my sugar loafs, i find the green ones a little easier to deal with but the onion ones are proving to be quite a challenge.
I juiced a bag of garlic and a couple trays of hot chillies in my cold press angel juicer and used that to spray them, sorted the green one quickly but the onion ones were not fazed. I go away for 3 week so now considering cutting them down??

I have the same infestation on my cos and icebergs . Must be the wet weather in perth this time of the year. Will try the Molasses tip this weekend.
