Don't sweat it Timmy... I'm sure with global warming our water will get drier :D

wetter or drier. that way you've got your bases covered and you can blame anything on global warming.

timc, for argument's sake, a very strong magnetic field could maybe break up large organic compounds or groups of particles (colloids? I'm making all this up, so feel free to rip it to shreds ;)) or change the grouping structure of water molecules around them on at least a temporary basis.

maybe, maybe, it would give enough time for them to be oxidised or whatever...remove the surrounding matrix of water molecules and you possibly 'open up' these particles to other processes...

I still don't buy it, but I reserve the right to be wrong.
I saw another mob at the ABC garden expo selling units that zap water with a coil of electrical cabling around the pipe. It looked no more complex than that, and it was supposed to increase growth rates, etc etc. AU$10k-ish for a small unit - anyone care to give it a try?

Re the pyramid razor sharpening, they tried that on Mythbusters and it doesn't work.

nothing to do with the razors, but i've lost respect for myth busters after some really shoddy experiments. view it as more of a cool thing to watch now.................is about as 'controlled' as the oz show 'whats good for you'.

cant remember extactly which ones, but i remember thinking "thats bullshit, they haven't allowed for xyz"

I Guess I'll have to ask my uncle what he thinks about magnetic water. My uncle is a physicists that specializes in magnetics. Did you know that with US money, (the old stuff before they started putting special strips in it and suff) they could detect counterfits using magnetic detectors? Anyway, if there is any validity to the magnetic water thing, he will probably know about it.

My personal guess (if it really does anything at all) it is probably has more to do with the contaminants in the water than the water itself. The statement about it changing the molecule of water to make it wetter, is most likely a reporter's mistaken over simplification of the explanation as they understood it.

I am curious. What material was used for the pipes? Could pvc pipes create a static charge on the water that the magnet effects? We haven't used "pure water" in any field. In Nebraska, the use of fertilizers has contaminated the water so much that you don't need any extra each year when you irrigate. Cities throughout the US have noted prescriptions drugs in the water. (Don't drink the water isn't just for the third world countries!) It's a sad world.

By the way, we commonly make wetter water by adding a small amount of detergent to water. This is marketed to asbestos removal firms and required under the EPA.

The magnets probably just help the impurities in the water align just right so they don't block up the spray or emmiter heads on the irrigation system. Then again, perhaps they would have gotten just as good of results by installing a new regular irrigation system on a field as a control.

CityFish, try not to confuse static and magnetic attraction, two totally different things... Sure, adding chemicals to the water could effect the strength of the water attraction forces but not magnets.

The magnets could collect contaminants sure, but only solids. Magnets will not attract ions of ferro-magnetic elements. But colud help to align them, but for what purpose? Saving irrigation fittings?

It all sounds too convenient to me...

On the subject of US Bank notes, here's a riddle: "What weighs more: The empire state building or the trees that are cut down every year to print money?"

The riddle doesn't take into account the billions of dollars just printed because of the US debt... LOL!

"Mr President, the country doesn't have enough money to pay our debts..."
"That's easy...we'll just print some more"

A drunk question: Would a regular water filter system filter out prescription medications or would those slip through a conventional filtering system? *hic*

That is a good question...

Reverse Osmosis Water purifiers should get rid of almost everything out of the water, but I have heard that RO water is not too healthy for people.

Chemical Purifiers like activated carbon filters might filter out some of the compounds but the organic compounds might slip through.

Mechanical Only filters like the ceramic filter jugs would have no effect.

UV Sterilized filters wouldn't have much effect either...

I don't know for sure... Anyone else care to add?

It's a bit oversimplified, but the main concerns seem to be about the water being too pure...no essential minerals.
