LOL!!! ROFL!!! Been there, done that. My culprit is Maryland crabs. They are steamed with a spice crust (Old Bay Seasoning) on the shells. They're generally eaten over newspapers spread on the table and with lots of beer to wash them down. You get coated in seasoning up to the elbows....and if you eat them with your contacts in, you better plan on wearing your contacts for the next 3 days solid until the pepper oils work their way out of your skin. Somehow though, I think the chillies would be worse. I actually stand a chance if I wash my hands 4 times.

btw Steve, your contacts are going to burn going in tomorrow morning, too. Grit your teeth. Better yet, if they are disposables, toss them.

maybe try some melaleuca oil to rinse it off, or lemon juice (then make sure you get your paper cuts too  )

I wear disposable gloves when cutting up hot chillis nowdays because of these types of experiences. As you probably know dairy is what helps with chilli. I would have doused by eyes with milk.

My eldest son is doing a commercial cooking course, and a while back had a massive reaction after dicing huge amounts of chillies! His hands puffed up and went red, the hospital suggested a solution which worked a treat. Wash your hands with mylanta or some other antacid. The aluminum reacts with the active ingredient in the oil and breaks it down!

The abstract for this article suggests that good old "Maxicrop" liquid seaweed can suppress spider mites ....

Spider Mite Solution

Believe Joel uses Maxicrop, wonder if he's had a spider mite problem???

Posted this in Marcus thread also...

Funny how things happen...

Was going through my notes last night and found a reference to Red Spider Mites, Slugs & snails and an organic spray to deal with them...

Then today I turn on the ABC when I dropped home for a late lunch and there's their garden bloke extolling the same remedy....

For Red Spider Mite, Slugs and Snails....

10 parts water : 1 part "Expresso" Coffee .... spray liberally on and around plants (must be Expresso not Instant ...needs to be strong)

Reapply after rain... if your growbeds are uncovered as it's not retained

Snails absorb the caffine and die... Spider Mites can't stand the stuff and disappear

PS. Mon... my notes say that for Spider Mite the best time to spray is at sunset...

don't know why... no reference in my notes... maybe that's when the mites become most active???

On the topic of mites. My predators seem to be going to work. The capsicums and cucumbers that basically stopped flowering and looked awful have new growth and flowers and I even noticed a new capsicum set today:)
