With the exception of how they are arranged they look very similar to what Jorgy posted in this thread a few pages back - http://www.backyardaquaponics.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2204&start=135

Yep, I remembered that I had seen some photos similar once upon a time. Thanks again Scotty. :thumbright: Now I am cursing Jorgy for not growing his bugs and teaching us what they are. I guess I'll have to take these little critters on holidays with me next week and see if they hatch :?

Diatomaceous earth works well on all insects and is harmless to everything else. We use it for weevil protection in our cereal grains on the farm. Also called diatomite. Works particularly well on the juicy sap sucking insects as it effectively lacerates and dehydrates to the point of death. It is full of lots of good minerals and trace elements also. Good luck.

Faye those good looking little bugs are juvenile Crusader beetles. Very destructive. They stick their proboscus into the growing tip of plants and suck them dry. They are a resident pest in our sandalwood plantations here. They target the young shoots on Acacia trees so lush vegetable shoots would be a gourmet feast. They are a favoured food of medium sized lizards but they may not be in the cities anymore. Squash them and you will smell a strong aromatic scent.

Possibly springtails. Do they launch themselves if you come near them?

What I mean is if you threaten them, like for instance your going to crush them, do they pop up into the air in different dirrections? It happens so fast one instant they are there and the next they are gone.

Thrips was the first thing that crossed my mind when I saw the photo this morning... but they are the best fed thrips on the planet if they are... they're all a tad "rotund"
Translated: Damn!... that's some fat-arsed Thrips! :bootyshake:
