I used wire mesh on a wood frame and that worked well, others use strings hanging down for support. Folks here mentioned letting the vines lower and wrapping them horizontally around on the ground before I think. They can go for yards that way. Have you seen the tomato tree at EPCOT? For that there is galvanized pipe, then wire cables, and nylon rope I think, to make a big netlike thing for the tomato to make a canopy. Lots of ideas. There is also a Florida string method where I think they make an A frame from strings or something.

I've just been using bamboo stakes and string hanging from a wood frame. However, I found a lot of things can be trained to just grow away from the grow beds. I planted my creepers (squashes, pumpkins, vines etc) and tomatoes at the edges so they could be grown away from the beds and on the ground.

Ah if only I had the room for that native. But I made a couple of cages out of vinyl coated metal fencing and set it up today. Looks good so far!

we use star pickets sunk into the ground, with anouther bloted further up for hight. then fencing wire it all up to give support for tomatoes
