Tomato cuttings root well as I understand it. AP flood and drain beds I understand are also a pretty good way to root things too.

I have a whole bed that I call the nursery bed. It is a shallow flood and drain bed that I filled the bottom with gravel and I put seed starting trays and small flower pots in to start seeds. I actually have been using compost in these containers much of the time. I have to admit that I don't always wash the roots of transplants off very well. If the plants are comming from a store, I wash them better but I figure the compost has already been in the system so a bit of it that doesn't shake off the roots, shouldn't be that big a deal. My system is also still pretty young so a diversity of solids in the grow beds might be a good thing right now. I should probably wash better as time goes on. I once tried using worm castings in the seed trays but it stayed way too wet, compost seems to work lots better. I suppose sand might be a good choice in the future.

Thanks to all for all your help and the comments so far. The cutting seems to be doing well. It has not wilted yet. We will see how it goes.

I have a question. All the seeds have sprouted and i had the water flow on 2 hours on and 2 hours off. Is that cool or do I need to adjust the water flow?

By the way, I have only lost two fish. One the first day and another the third day. He jumped out and committed suicide  Oh well... you win some and lose some...
