I have banana trees growing in one of my grow beds (the dwarf ones about 5 feet tall). The grow bed has so many roots in it, it no longer flood and drains. It is running as constant flood now. They are still growing great though.

Right. A similar case with me too.. one of my F/D grow beds where I have 6 sweet potato plants is not siphoning properly... siphon works okay but water is not draining completely... there are roots everywhere... I had planted them away from siphon which is a good thing... seems like if I continue keeping them in the bed, they would monopolize and GB might turn into a constant flood as you had experienced it.

Lessons learned - for big plants, even for sweet potatoes, if in GB, give them the whole bed... or put them in soil with AP water/muck.
