what timing! today should be the day I get most of this done (fingers crossed )

I have used boric acid mixed in with a spoonful of jam or honey (something sweet) - got rid of a big bull ants nest some time back.

I generally use it when ant nests get close to the house, can't really see the benefit of eradicating them from GBs though, would have thought they would be a beneficial insect
