Yes, there are a great number of Robert Heinlein (RIP) books with the Lazarus Long character. I should check, as I seem to recall something like AP in one or more of his books from way back.

Ok so I am interested in growing alfalfa in an aquaponic system for the reason that it is a halophyte and can help me remove salt in my system. My water source is brackish and the air temperature get up to 45c in the summer so I will have a lot of evaporation happening to keep my system viable but with that I am concerned that the salt concentration will get out of hand. Any other ideas of higher value halophytes for aquponics?

What is your system water salinity level?

Can you use rain water to replace evaporation losses? If you are continually adding saline water, the number of plants that will grow will diminish over time, and it's doubtful any plant will remove enough to counter it.
Even celery, which absorbs quite a bit of salt, has minimal effect on the salinity level in my system (~6000l water total)
