I have planted a few coffee trees. One in aquaponics and the rest in the soil. I must say the one in the aquaponics system has been extremely health. This is picture I took 2 weeks ago. There already has been tremendous growth in the leaves and the roots. The leaves even changed in texture and color compared to the ones that were grown previously while in soil.

Pretty good growth. The hand seems to have gotten lighter too.

Haven't tried tobacco yet, because this year's planting season got away from me, but I'm slated to for this Fall, or next Spring at the latest.

If you're in the USA, I recommend checking out http://wholeleaftobaccollc.com/forum/forum.php - they have a wealth of information, and the 8th item on their FAQ has a bunch of links for acquiring seeds and/or plants. http://wholeleaftobaccollc.com/forum/links.php?ab_s=1

I believe they also have a seed sharing program, and a legcy seed preservation program, but I'm not sure about the details since it has been about 6 months or so since I last read those pages.

I read somewhere that if you plant enough green, unroasted coffee beans, you'll likely get a few to germinate. I don't know what "enough" means in this context, and the guys at the coffee importer place in Addison were highly skeptical that any of the beans would be viable because even though they're not roasted yet, they haven't been handled with the greatest of care either, at least compared to how one would intentionally store and ship seeds.

Nonetheless, I bought a pound each of two different types, and am seeing if I can get some to grow. Please note: I did not PLANT a pound eat, at least not yet, and am only attempting to germinate maybe a handful of beans.

I started a few weeks ago, and as of earlier this week I have only ONE (1) new plant showing up in those seed pots. I don't even know if it is coffee - it is either too early to tell, or I don't have adequate knowledge to tell. But I'll update this when I have something more interesting to say than "well, somethin's growing!".

So far, somewhere between none and one of the green coffee seeds I planted have germinated. The reason I'm not certain which it is (0 or 1) is because I do have one plant that has come up, but I don't yet know if it is a coffee plant or a weed.
