Has anyone heard of the marketing ploy called Message Beans? "They" take the bean seed and treat it in some way (lasers or pressure?) to press/burn an image on to the bean. The message bean is usually sold in some trendy container packed with lightweight growing media. You get instructions on exactly how much water to add, how long to wait.... Then when the bean sprouts and shoots up, the cotyledon (the bean seed) is still attached to the stalk (I'm sure you've all seen that part of growing beans). Message beans have a little message written on the cotyledon (eg or Be Happy....)

Now, to the important part of this ramble. Axl was given one to sprout for a product promotion at work, and brought it home (can't throw things out you know ). So I planted it in the big grow bed. It quite likes AP It is growing quite well and has produced two bean pods. Two ENORMOUS bean pods. These pods are about 40cm long and about 6cm wide and 2cm deep.

The big question is.... What type of bean is this?

BK.... you might be closer than you think.... I believe it is actually called the " jack bean" .... and yes it got it's name from the jack and the beanstalk story
