ABC has a great range of home made brews which are pretty effective. My white oil is similar to this but i use less pure soap liquid an a bit less of it. Remember Home made/organic poison is still poison.

i have controlled aphids with a short blast of water at them every time im watering :D

well team, this afternoon the pressure sprayer got a workout. The aphids got a nice coating of seasol, as did anything else that was in the way ;)
The mealy bugs had a nice drink of 50/50 metho and water.
The powdery mildew got 1/10 milk and water.
We'll see how everyone is tomorrow

I have used a mix of garlic, onion, water and a few drops of dish detergent in a blender, strained and put in a hand sprayer. Worked well on aphids and the fish were fine

If any of the garlic got into the water, that wouldn't be too bad, as garlic is sometimes used as an attractant in fish feed.....

Discussion in another thread about Fruit Fly control..... so I've posted this one here.....

Have personally used this one for years and found it to be very effective

http://www.abc.net.au/riverina/stories/m754257.pdf

For our overseas members you can substitute other things for the "vegemite".....

A mixture of vinegar and sweet fruit scrapes... mango, apple cores, sultanas etc

I've even heard of treacle and peanut butter being effective

another substitute could be soy sauce which has lots of yeast in it too. Dilute it 50/50 with water. I use that in my house fly traps, works VERY well

thanks rupe mum used to use a similar trap but without the 2 smaller bottles , and judgeing by how few apricots we got they might be a key factor in the construction

also mum used to use a fruit puree, it came in a jar i think its a bit like tomato paste but made from apples etc

how many do you think would be needed for one tree ??

Cheers

We have fruit fly something shocking here but I have never had much succes in catching many in these home recipe traps. A couple of the commecial organic remedies have helped a little.

Nice one rup, last year I dscarded about 20kgs of peaches because of fruit fly. I tried plenty of home remedies and even evil semi-systemic chemical sprays. Will give this a try this year.

I used a one bottle idea first off and stupidly cut the top off....

Was working fine.... until it rained.....

the idea of the other bottles is to help trap the flies so that they can't fly out.

And yep Jaymie... had forgotten about the soy and yeast mix.... it's one my old man used to use up in Brissie

I just make red pepper tea. Steep a cup of ground HOT peppers in water for a couple ours. Add a quarter cup of vegie oil and a drop of liquid dish soap. Mix well Strain VERY well and put in sprayer. Spray tops and bottoms of leafs. It works great for me when I need to quickly get things under control. I dont know if it bothers fish. I do it for hydroponics.
