I have grown shitake with sawdust blocks but the blocks are expensive.
How much production did you get of the blocks? I have been disappointed in the production from both my logs and the sawdust cakes. Also did the blocks just fruit once or did you get several flushes?

I have heard of people growing off of pasteurized wood pellets and chemical pasteurized straw, but I if I remember correctly they pasteurized it using hydrated lime. Did you make your own sawdust blocks or buy them pre-colonized? I've made some pretty good pioppino blocks out of free city mulch that were super cheap for me to put together.

I bought Rush Wayne's books a few years back and it was his methods that I used to do my cloning. The main problem I found in Australia was finding substitutes for the ingredients he most commonly uses.

From my experience I think the peroxide method is good, but inevitably it slows things down a lot.

Ruch now has a forum, which I joined but have not been in yet. Must go and have a look to see if there are any Ausie's sharing info on Ausie products etc.

The first block I tried I screwed up and bugs got it. The one I am working now I got from ebay at $20 with the shipping. I have harvested 20 oz. of shitake on the first fruiting and am drying it out now prior to soaking and going for another fruiting. The vender was gordonsoft and his instructions are clear qnd precise. He also sells oyster blocks at the same price. I ordered the printed books from Wayne but have not recieved them yet.
