Hi Guys

Based on thread on DWC I came up with the following:

For 5000ltr = 200kg fish =250 plants= 1250 kg tomatos per season : I estimated 5kg per plant: For you guys who have raised tomatos does this sound ball park? Note that I would like a realistic amount to expect in a balanced system not some freaked out crazy tomato plant producing 20kg per day
What say U?

The orginal info below:
ie: 200 litres tank stocked at 4 kg per 100 litres = 8 kg fish. This should support 10 buckets nicely. Maybe even more

You will get at least 5kg per plant - especially with such a high load of fish.

Provided you give the plants enough root room.

I planted my tomato seedlings today. About 40 give or take. I like to over kill a little. And I really didn't think all the seed where going to come up.

I'm definitely not an expert on tomatoes but there are so many variables to figure.
Type of tomato
Weather (climate)
air and water temp
season
Correct amount of light
pollination
nutrient balance (since fish don't provide everything)
pH (since it can affect nutrient balance)
O2
Maturity of system and is it managed well enough to keep 4 kg of fish per 100 L of water healthy.

We have had great luck with the cherry and grape tomatoes but have yet to get larger tomatoes doing well.

I've got a lot of the regular tomatoes in the ground. Some in Autopots and a few in GB's. I was thinking of using the water from the pool to water the dirt tomatos. Has anyone looked into this?

I've often used system water to give my dirt and potted plants a treat.

On tomatoes does anyone find that you get a lot of insect damage on plants grown from store bought seed stock but cherry and heirloom varieties don't seem to get the same amount of damage. Does Monsanto own the seed banks.

My cherry and grape tomatoes are still going, at least the plants that I didn't pull out to make space for other stuff. Will try and leave a couple plants to see if they will make it through the winter since I've just put plastic over most of the system.

I do have some Rutgers tomatoes starting to set fruit now that the weather has cooled off for real. Will see how they do over winter too. I do have a few of those out in dirt as well. Will have to keep an eye on them to compare.

I never take any notice of what season we are in. I planted my tomatoes in winter. And grow them all year round from cuttings.

As to the maximum tomato yield, I think that Joel (earthbound) might have the record. He had a monster tomato plant that produced somewhere around 80kg (if I recall correctly)
