This more of a snake problem than fish problem. I a have a water snake in my fish tank and my small fish are gone. How do away with them and how do keep them out? Last summer I had 2 killed them with bb gun. Any other ideas? I have a dirt tank about 200 ft away and a live creek about 300 ft. This in closed in a green house that is also getting eat up with grasshoppers. If it was not for bad would have luck at all. Thinks Jerry

Gee, that is an unusual problem I haven't heard of before... How to snake proof a system? I guess you want to be careful about not having anything above the fish tank which they can climb up.. Better still how about a mesh cover over the fish tank made from fine bird netting or similar, covering the top completely so nothing can get in...

When I worked on a station many moons ago, every year just before summer (snake season) we used to collect all the old diesel oil from servicing the tractors/headers and pour a thick line around the house yards.....very environmentally unfreindly but never in 3 years had a snake in the yard, we had pleanty outside though , apparently they didn't like crossing the used oil....it may be worth a try if your desperate

I would try two things to help the situation. First I would start feeding some of the cats out in the green house or at least around it. Cats and snakes usually do not mix territories.

I put moth balls under my trailer and it keeps snakes out from under it.

I put all my used oil around my buildings for termite control but never thought it would keep snakes out. The old time loggers taught me about the treatment for termites. When they build a building they spread out a barrel of diesel under the building and use the waste oil around the foundation. The man who taught me showed me his pine board house that was twenty years plus and no termite damage but his wishing well in the yard was eaten up. He did not treat that spot cause he did not want the whole in the grass when the wishing well would be moved.

But it reminded me of a poster that I used to have hung in both my kids rooms...
