G'day all. my system has been cycling for three weeks now and plants looking good. My silvers had flashing and thanks to those helpful people, i think it has been resolved. However the water in my FT has been turning green in the last 4-5 days and is getting darker and darker. At a stage now where i cant even see the silvers.
PH - 7.8
AMM - 1.0
NITRITES - 0
NITRATES -0
Should i leave the water as is or would it be better to take action and minimise green water. If so what would be the best procedure? Also the water is salted to about 5ppt.
Cheers Sterfy.

I think plants would do alright to about 3ppt of salting, but above that, I think some plants would start to suffer.

Best action for green water (algae) is to totally black-out the tank. Use something like a tarp or similar and cover the whole tank for a week or two. Stop feeding until the water clears...

add some extra air and shade - it will clear in no time.

Agree with this also, mine cleared up in 2-3 days with. The addition of aeration. I even noticed taking my Venturi out made my water cloud up so I'd suggest a Venturi and a few air stones

I had 12,000 litres clear up in 3 days with a bit of shade, works great.

pea soup is to be expected in an uncycled system. shade if you can, but otherwise, i've never bothered worrying about it. Fish never much cared either. once cycled, with the right number of plants, there is very little additional nutrients for the algae anyway, and it shouldn't be too much of a problem. additional aeration never hurts if you have a spare air pump laying around.

cheers

Ive seen a 6 outlet air pump somewhere in this forum. Can anyone assist in letting me know where in W.A. I can get my hands on one. Cheers.
