Hi all, I have about 30 silver perch in a 2500l tank and all has been well up until a couple of days ago. It appears that they are eating each other. There are a couple of larger one 25-30 cm and the rest would be about 15-20 cm. I was under the impression that silvers did not eat their own and that is one of the reasons that I selected them. The fish (large bits more to the point) that I have pulled out did not seem to be carrying any disease that I can see and I did not have any sickly looking fish prior to finding the half eaten floaters. This can not be due to birds etc as the tank is covered with shade cloth. Also the feed is plenty, twice a day, and at most feedings there are still a few pellets left after 3 minuest. Any assistance would be appreciated. Andrew |

I'd be very surprised if they were eating each other... perhaps they might be picking at the fleshy remains of previously dead fish... what are your ammonia, pH and water temp readings??? |

ph is 7, ammonia 0, water temp ?, warmer than it was yesterday. As I am in Bris (current air temp mid to high 20's) and the fish have been in the tank over winter I don't think that the temp would be an issue. This is very annoying as there does not seem to be an obvious answer. Have lifted a couple of the others to have a look and all seem to be healthy. No signs of ill health. |

How many fish do you reckon you have pulled out? At change of season it is not uncommon to have a few mortalities. Some fish just cannot make the change for some reason. |
