Went to feed my silvers the other day, food went in, fish came over brilliant i thought... then noticed one close to the surface off to the side away from the others... looking kinda sluggish... so i netted him (which was too easy) and pumped off some water into a holding tub.. add air and filter a pellet or two of food and left him to do his thing... His eyes were a kinda pink colour and had what i think was excessively slimey appearance with redish marks along his body... next day, looked better... today... very dead. BUMMER... any ideas?

cheers

don't eat it, don't drink the water, bury the carcass or feed it to the dog or the chooks

Jaymie,
that either sounds majorly paranoid, or extremely severe! Do you know of some nasty fish -> human contaminant that would cause these weird markings?
btw I wouldn't eat it either, it's just the shortness of your reply that intrigues me, it sounds like you know more than you say.

Would suggest a diseased fish... probably bacterial.... possibly "red spot".... definitely sounds like it was "haemorraging" though....

Wouldn't eat it..... and I'd keep a very close eye on the rest.... salt immediately if you see any signs in the others...

Might just be that this one was getting bullied by the rest... but be wary..

it was late (for me atm) and I was tired, but I was just saying some basic precautions. Dogs or chooks won't eat stuff that is REALLY bad for them (mostly ;) ) so they should be fine 8)

Don't know about that.... most dogs (and cats) are fed and eat the most revolting crap in tins... ... guess it's a matter of hunger...

But I still wouldn't eat it... probably wouldn't ask my dog to either... just throw it to him and starve him until it's eaten...
