Hi all,

In general what could be causes for lingering trace ammonia of less than 0.25ppm? Test is always slightly green but no more than 0.25ppm level but definitely not yellow.

Its baffling me a bit...System is 3 years old but I moved it 6 months ago but filter and growbed was matured.
I thought it was the test kit or my water. But both fresh tap water and after treating for chlorine it measures 0ppm Ammonia. So I guess it cant be testkit, tap water or chlorine treatment.

I have about 10 big 10cm Dendrobaena Worms in the growbed as I thought it might have anearobic zones. But they have been in there for 1.5months now and no change.

This has been going on for months, no dead fish or delikes in the system.
Fish seem to be well but I am worried to feed more whitch I would like due to low nutrients in the system

I feed about 20gr/day of 35% protein food to the Goldfish in the system.
Estimated total fish weight is about 16x 120gr = 2kg

temp 20degC
ph 6.5
Nitrite 0ppm
Nitrate 5-10ppm

It's pretty common to have a trace ammonia reading at the level you're getting - take it in the context of whether the ammonia is actually in the toxic form, which is what you find out from looking at the chart I linked to below.
FWIW, Your trace ammonia readings are of no concern at your systems pH and temp based on the Total ammonia nitrogen chart found here - http://ibcofaquaponics.com/information/tables-and-charts/

Thanks a lot scotty for your reply that puts me at ease.

According to the chart it seems I could have 20ppm of ammonia at 20degC and 6.4pH until its a problem?
and I was worried about 0.25ppm

There are times when you might have to worry about 0.25ppm but just not right now :thumbright:
