Hello everyone, I recently constructed a larger aquaponics system (35 m3) to grow more vegetables that I could sell in my local farmers market. To start I purchased a bunch of tilapia fingerlings (1500) and some that were a bit larger (650 fish 12.5 grams average). I put them into a small quarantine system that I also constructed (5 m3). After a few days I decided to clean the bottom of the tanks as there was a lot of sediment building up in the bottom of the tanks. I found about 30 little insect looking creatures around 6-9 mm in length. Here are some of the pictures that I was able to take. I have no idea what these little things are and whether I should be worried? I am planning on transferring some of the larger fish to my new system but I don't want to bring along any fish that could be harm my system in the future. Please help. Thanks in advance for any advice or help anyone can offer me. Cheers everyone. I agree it looks like a dragonfly larva and they will eat tiny critters and don't seem to hurt anything. I have then in my outdoors APS Here's a good link to pond critters http://www.wou.edu/~bledsoek/pond_organ ... isms_2.htm |

Yes, definitely mudeyes = dragonfly nymphs. They are often used for bait when fishing, so they may not last long if the tilapia are large enough to eat them. |
