Help...my daughter accidentally dumped a whole bunch of food in my husbands system and he is away at work. What do I do? |

If it is floating food get a pool strainer or anything that strains water and scoop it out.. If it is sinking use a broom to sweep it up to line corner and then scoop it out |

Sorry no one answered you sooner. And everything should be fine overall anyways just take out whatever the fish didn't eat. |

Oh and also in case something urgent happens again, I recommend typing emergency or a urgent or help in all caps in your title for fast responses. |

I recommend not shouting, ie dont use all caps. There is no desperate urgency, fish food takes days to break down, so just collect it up so that it doesn't all rot away somewhere in the system and cause a spike in Ammonia then Nitrites. I inspect my sump and scoop any excess fish food from it every 4 or 5 days with a small net. |

My son did this once. Emptied about 3kg into the FT, I just scooped out what I could. |

I'm not saying this is a huge emergency but just incase something else worse happened. |

And to her since she didn't know it was a big emergency to her. |

.. But on the other hand... better to be safe than sorry.. A friend with a simple system was left to the MIL, whilst the family went OS... MIL fed the instructed food ... breakfast, lunch and dinner.. :-) Little survived the party.. .. . |
