In my FT, I currently have overflow from sump going straight in from a height of 12-13". Would it be better to plum it into FT and add a simple venturi? I have an aerator as well. Also, for back up, should I be just concerned about keeping talapia aerated or moving water(GB's), or both? I can see how this could get pretty expensive for the back up system. Thanks! General layout 275 gal. FT, 180 gal sump, 3 GB's at 14 Cu ft each, 4' x 8' FRS and 5 verticals up next. cycling on tadpoles and goldfish, getting ready to add a few blue talapia, and start some veggies and herbs after I finish getting shade cloth on greenhouse that is almost complete. |

As long as you account for head loss, it certainly would not hurt. You want to add it as close to the pump as possible to give the maximum ammount of time for the oxygen to dissolve. |

A venturi requires a significant pressure differential to work well. The differential is going to be equal to the head loss caused by the venturi (they are the same thing). By increasing the Total Dynamic Head you will reduce the flow and the net effect will likely be a decrease in the ability of your system to deliver oxygen. It will work but kw for kw you will get more O2 in your system from other means like an air pump or fountain. |
