Post subject:  Persistent ICH, what to do?

A few weeks ago I noticed my fish were troubled with ich, small white spots and flashing. I have given them a salt bath and salted the system up to 2.5 ppt. After this a few days later the swimming behaviour became more normal, occasionally a flash only.

Recently I netted a few and was unpleasantly surprised. The disease was definitive more advanced, the fish were in a bad shape and showing not only white sport but also some deformations. Again I gave them a salt bath, which they all survived(some barely) but I fear of loosing the batch.

Any suggestions on how to go from here?

Thanks a bunch.

What level of salt are you bathing them
in?

The concentration in the salt bath has been 20 to 25 ppt, for 20 minutes or so.

Whoa... be very, very careful salt bathing at that concentration....

10-12ppt is sufficient for most salt baths... for fungal and bacterial infections.... or perhaps severe Ich...

But a salt bath is about "shock & awe".... basically forcing the parasite to drop off/die....

But the Ich parasite is still in your system water... and will reinfect if you don't treat your whole system....

Raise your salinity to 6ppt.... and hold for at least 2 weeks....

OK, I will never prepare a salt bath at that concentration ever again, and raise system concentration to 6 ppt.

Thanks!
