I found a heap of these critters this morning swimming around in the sediment in my IBC and was wondering what they are and if they are a problem

This is a guess but I believe this is a chironomid also known as a blood worm at this stage because of the color. http://genetics.unimelb.edu.au/Martin/Organism.html |
