Hi , please help me with this , This morning I noticed that one of my goldfish has a problem with her gill , so I decided to treat both of my goldfish with potassium permengnate , only to find out the the other one has more serious problem , it may be the same disease but more advanced ( pic no. 2 ) . I did not notice that earlier because they looked healthy .I think the cause of this disease is the white material appearing in pic no. 1 on the dorsal fin ( it has been there from the first day , but I did not think that it is abnormal until now ) , What do you think guys , what should I do . Katib

For something as nasty as that I'd think 3ppt would be the minimum required... 3kg/1000Ltr... or 300gm/100Ltr If you manage to save them, water the 3ppt down to 1ppt with regular water top-ups, then run 1ppt in your system all the time as a preventative measure. |

salt helps the fish deal with stress from disease or illness, it also helps fish deal with high nitrite levels that can cause brown blood disease.. it promotes a good slime coat on the fish as well table salt contains (or can contain) anti-caking agents that are bad for the fish.. you want "pure salt" or sea salt.. sea salt will usally contain some trace minerals as well |

Is there an easy way to determine the salt content of water? I put 3 ppt in a couple of months back, but after some rain im not sure if that concentration remains in the system. I have a strawberry plant that is still alive (although not producing) so im wondering if i need to add more salt... |
