Post subject:  what is this ?

Hi , please help me with this ,
This morning I noticed that one of my goldfish has a problem with her gill , so I decided to treat both of my goldfish with potassium permengnate , only to find out the the other one has more serious problem , it may be the same disease but more advanced ( pic no. 2 ) . I did not notice that earlier because they looked healthy .I think the cause of this disease is the white material appearing in pic no. 1 on the dorsal fin ( it has been there from the first day , but I did not think that it is abnormal until now ) , What do you think guys , what should I do .

For something as nasty as that I'd think 3ppt would be the minimum required... 3kg/1000Ltr... or 300gm/100Ltr

If you manage to save them, water the 3ppt down to 1ppt with regular water top-ups, then run 1ppt in your system all the time as a preventative measure.

salt helps the fish deal with stress from disease or illness, it also helps fish deal with high nitrite levels that can cause brown blood disease.. it promotes a good slime coat on the fish as well
table salt contains (or can contain) anti-caking agents that are bad for the fish..
you want "pure salt" or sea salt.. sea salt will usally contain some trace minerals as well

Is there an easy way to determine the salt content of water? I put 3 ppt in a couple of months back, but after some rain im not sure if that concentration remains in the system. I have a strawberry plant that is still alive (although not producing) so im wondering if i need to add more salt...
