we are running a 1000ltr tank, with three grow beds.
system been running for 6 months
blue metal in beds
currently ph 6.4, amm,0 nitrate 0 nitrite 0

we had 90 trout in tank which we put in in september. all going good with no deaths.
have had a cool spring and now summer has started, checked fish at 4pm all fine. checked two hours later and every single one was dead. water temp was up to 29. i know this is not ideal, but seem to be having no luck keeping fish alive. i assume the water temp was the main culprit.

the heat seems to be coming from the grow beds, if i change to clay pebbles or other media in grow bed, will this draw in less heat? enough to solve problem?
will shade cloth over whole system help or will that just hinder the plants?
any other cooling suggestions, it is only the start of summer .....how does everyone else do it?

any suggestions would be grately apprieciated, fairly new to AP and finding the fish side of things a bit of an uphill battle to get right.... :>)

Trout should have been harvested by now as this is what will happen. 29C is way to high for trout and they would have died from lack of oxygen.
Trout are a seasonal fish and you should get fingerlings in march/april when your water is cool enough and grow them out till you look like hitting the first hot spell, then harvest

Yep to all of the above...

Trout at 29, and 90 fish in 1000L, either of those is possibly enough to kill fish, both together is guaranteed.. How big are your growbeds?

You should probably look at putting some silver perch in the system.

+1. I hope you were not given any advice on your system setup (stocking level, fish, etc) and it was purely a lack of knowledge on your part. If someone gave you advice, then you should not listen to that person anymore.

Research your fish more or speak to the nice people at Backyard Aquaponics Jandakot.
