Found another one with similar issues dead yesterday morning.

Salted to about 10pp in the 1000l tank and left them with lots of air for a couple of hours, they seemed to enjoy it. I then turned everything back on and should have diluted it down to 6-7pp which isnt the best for the plants but i need to save the fish :( I might do a water change to bring it back down to 5pp

How are your other levels Zman?

All the normal test levels are fine, I think the silver perch came from a pond which may be the problem.

Hopefully with the prolonged salt exposure it will kill whatever is getting to the fish.

Actually looking at the latest fish death photo there is actually fin rot too

No more fish deaths for the last few days. Since i wanted to dilute the salt levels i connected up the duck weed tank which has killed my fish viability (dead duck weed). I do have heaps of foam in my ST too now.

I have just had a baby and not living there so cant do much till i go back home.

To cap things off my air pump died and need to buy another.

I have a fish with fungus as well. Im not trying to hijack the thread but I was curious to see what you use to treat food fish with. In the aquarium we use Pimafix which is made from bay leave oil, a 1% emulsified.

I know that turmeric is an antifungal. Antimocrobial really. I was curious to find some info on whether or not using turmeric powder would do any good. Im not sure if it would cause any harm to the bacterial bed though. Bay leaves I can get locally, and fresh. I figure that they would be less likely to make trouble since they are natural and edible.

Im looking for info on how to treat food fish.

Dont use any aquarium medicines in aquaponics as they are not for human consumption. Use salt as Zman said above. 1g/L of water gives you 1ppt

So salt is pretty much the go to medicine or everything then?

Possibly due to nest building judging by the location and damage to scales around the area. Do you have abrasives in your system? Are the afflicted males? Not to say there is not an infection as well. Judging by coloration I would guess bacterial, if anything.

For treatment improve water quality and decrease stress. If you are going to use chemical treatment or salt you can dip them in a bath with high concentrations rather than adding to your main system.

No nest building with the species stocked Dustin... or "abrasives" in the tank....

Definitely was a bacterial infection...
