i have not too old (5 months) of a system( 50 gallons) and right now its just 2 grow bed made of a 55 gallon drum cut in half
i was messing around with a sprayer system an had 2 plastic 55 gallon drums ( with around a total of 90 holes cut out for plants)i just went from 80 gallons to 50 and combined the 2 tanks..( i didnt actually add or take away any water it was always low). i also have just had the 16 of my 35 goldfish die... i took about 5 plants in rock wool from my sprayer system and added them to my media bed system...(this was all run off the same water)
Heres where the problem lies.. i think... before i added them to the system i left them outside and they blew on the dirt for about a day( thick muddy dirt half burried) i thought they were dead but i put them in the water of the old tank which was also outside and collected a little rain in the bottom... and they sat out for a day or 2... but also to complicate things i had a bunch of fresh treated lumber on the hill 6 feet above where the plants burried themselves in the mud.. there has been alot of rain so it could be washing the chemicals down hill.. or i managed to bring in an anerobic bacteria in with the rock wool( i dont know how quick it could affect a system) the plants seem fine... what do i do to stabilize my system.. i did a water test.. the ph was at 7.5 nitrites and nitrates were at 0 hardness was good the only thing off was the kh was a little low... i pulled the fish from the system but what can i do to restore it?

And I forgot to mention that the area that the plants fell in there was a bigger spill near there of lantern fluid... I don't see any evidence of that in the water though
