Are you human?: Only when I have to!
Location: Crazyville Michigan, USA
So a few days ago I upgraded my aquarium. In the process of moving the fish I saw a weird bump on one fishes face. At first I thought I had hurt it with the net some how. Now a few days later it looks like this Image the little white bit seems to be hanging out like a buried worm of some sort. Does anyone recognize this thing? I'm thinking hospital tank with a hearty portion of iodized salt. Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks.

Can't tell. Does the fish try to rub against the side or the bottom (is it flashing)? If it does, I'd be tempted to try and remove the fish and give it a salt bath or put it in a quarantine tank if you have one. Might do that anyway.

If the fish isn't acting strange and it's going to be difficult to pull him without stressing all the fish then I'd probably leave him for now. You might have to treat the whole tank later.

Hope this helps

My fish get so much badgering from the kids that the net doesn't bother anyone but whoever I catch. I'm actually setting up a quarantine tonight as a precaution. He will be getting a large dose of iodized salt. That will clean him out really good of any parasites. Not recommended for use in normal ap, but my bio strain is resistant, so bombs away! And of course it's going to be in a quarantine tank so the plants are safe from the iodine. He hasn't been scratching but it has been getting bigger so something it's growing in there...

Keep us updated....I'd be very interested to see what it turns into. Hope the fish is ok, and recovers quickly from whatever this is. :support:

Is there a corner in the forum for pics of really gross things that you pull off fish? :puke:

It's not fish lice, but more of a worm looking thing. The iodized salt is something I've found by trial and error. It seems to kick small invertebrates faster than plain salt. It might be hog wash but it seems to work better for me anyway.
