Interesting idea Charlie.
I dont get a tingle if I put my hand in (just ran down to the fish and checked) but it could be intermittent. Any idea how it could be checked? I'm picking up a pump from BYAP in the next week so I can see if a new pump makes a difference.
Also I might run it past the Fish vet and see what he says as well.

I'm not sure how much longer I will have trout for to work though the possibilities and may need to look at it again next year.

I think the large stomach is most likely caused by obesity  'cos I do have/had normal shaped fish. :D

You could simply use a multimeter to measure voltage in the water. :thumbleft:

Thanks Charlie,
So Boris and I have our homework set. :?

I think we need to make a road trip down to Troutman's dams with a carton or 2 :drunken: and check out the 'electrofishing' theory of yours on those huge trout he has in that dam and post some whoppers on the brag thread

Ok did a bit of research and think it may be Dropsy, causes are unacceptable water quality - most likely high nitrate. We know that Marc has high nitrates but what about you Boris??
You may need to get some more plants in your growbeds or perform some water changes throughout the year.

I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this , or anyone has any ides ...

I've lost about 10 - 15 trout over the last couple months in this manner - only one or two dead t a time, more often than not the dead ones seem bloated / fat stomach, and when I cut them open ( bloated or not ) they're filled with water

I wonder if my goldfish has the same problem. I REALLY REALLY don't want it to spread to my SP!!
Same thing, I opened the stomach and off-colour water all spilled out and deflated the swollen stomach.
Does anyone have any more light to shed on this ?
contagious ??

All the insides of the fish were mushy. It just fell apart as I moved it around with the knife.
Poor bugger
