hydro: well metric is easier fro me true, but everything is mixed so, i try to please both:)

hmm which is it then, i added 7kg now i'm off the scenery for the weekend

but for ppt - parts per thousand, is like 1kg to 1000kg, so 7,5 should be right, 15 was for 6 ppt i think?

i measured the EC when i added the salt and it wass off the chart, i can read up to 2.0 EC(2000 micro s), so i'm waiting in fear what will happen to the plants

the fish loved it and started eating like crazy after i chucked the salt in. looked like a lot of salt, 15 kg would be even a bigger pile :D

hey C1

i was away for 2 days, and i'll be away for another 5 from my big system. but as i heard from my parrents, the fish are happy and not dieing anymore and eating like crazy, the plants are said to be growing good aswell

wish i'd add that salt sooner, not so many fish would die

well a lesson in "that much salt is not too much", because i thought i should only add 2-3 PPMs not ppts of salt, that's why there was almost no effect when i already added the salt before in ppm :drunken:

but when i read Dandman chucks in 150kg of salt, i knew something was wrong with my few TBSs of salt in my system

i'll report when i go visit my family&fish this weekend how things are going

have a good one, and thanks again

Yep metric is always easier. 1 kg of salt per 1000 liters of water = 1 ppt

Of course once you add salt, it can be difficult to know how much you need to add again at a later date. When I salt to 3 ppt in my system the EC meter will read way off the chart. I've taken to putting a measuring cup of system water into a container and then two measuring cups of tap or rain water (both normally measure 0 on the meter) into the container and then measuring that. Then I can times by 3 to know my salt level. I've got the Bluelab Trunechon so I use the x 500 conversion to get ppm. This might not be perfect but seems to be close enough to the ballpark to keep me from over salting my tender catfish.

TCL: thank you for the tip, most usefull
my tap water reads 0.4 EC so i gotta use rain or distilled. how often do you have to salt, every 4 weeks or so?
