My father used to catch yabbies to use as bait for fishing and the storage and transport rule was:-
WET but not in WATER. They would die really quickly if left in a bucket of water.
HOWEVER if they were put into stacked trays of wet gum leaves in such a way that they were only one layer deep they
would stay alive, and kicking, for more than a week if put under a shaded tree and a bucket of water was dribbled over the whole thing
once or twice a day- the water ran out the bottom of the setup.
In the same way tandanus catfish could be transported quite easily in wet bags and they could survive out of water for hours!

That's really interesting, especially about the tantans... I want some of those blighters.
