Hi All, I’ve just finished putting together my system (well almost) and I was wondering, where are some of the places around the Perth area to buy fish? I am thinking on starting with silver perch because they are tough, but it would be nice to have a list of where are good places to buy all the possibilities. Thanks |

Try Carey Nagle in Gidgigannup and sometimes Golden Ponds stock them. I would be going for trout this time of year myself. Gavin (Troutman) He also does silver perch. 97280056 |

Hi I am a bit worried about getting Trout though don't they take 18 months or so to mature and I live just North of Clarckson and so by the end of winter it'll be to hot for them, or will they be big enough to harvest by the time it gets to hot? |

With a good quality food you should be able to get a Trout fingerling to plate size with in 5 - 6 months. If you are worried go for Black Bream or Silver Perch. They take longer to get to plate size but will tolerate a wider range of temperature - ie you can keep them all year round. |

I got mine from Trout man a week ago and the size they come and the amount they eat they will definately be on a plate by early spring. I'm just north of wanneroo so I know we can have tempretures above the normal perth temps. |

I understand your concerns, as it does take a good two months during the cooler months to get the system cycled, and during which you cannot feed the trout much food. But trout do grow rather quickly during the cooler months, and taking into consideration that your system cycles in June, you still have about 4-5 months to bring them to a good size. Most importantly with trout is to make sure that you have lots of aeration during the warmer days in spring leading up to summer. But definitely possible.. |
