has anyone tried to grow or feed meal worms to the FT?.
meal worms raise very fast and are quit popular with reptile and blue bird feeders.
why not fish? they are very high in protien low in fat i think. i raise them to sell for feeders.

I have fed 'em to my fish a couple of times and they seemed keen.

What's your process for breeding them up and sustaining the population.

How are meal worms raised.
Seems to me if BSF larvae & HS larvae (maggots) are an acceptable supplementary feed source, Meal worms should be also.
Bear in mind I have no expertise or experience in this area.

Looks a lot more involved than BSF but.

they just do their stuff in a container of meal, i sift out the meal every couple of weeks from the beatles and start a new hatch growing. add taters and some chicken feed as needed. they raise simple like with little effort on my part.

I think this is going to be the future of feeding fish on small scales like in backyards. A mix of methods including Tony's roadkill, meal worms, flies, moths, and BSF's.

Collecting insects is another good feed source. Also gets them away from the plants.

Speaking of that, I guess the fish might like the grown beatles as well as the actual meal worms. Better than just letting the older/extra beatles grow old & die.

everyone should grow these too...reduce waste add to soil and feed fish...win,win,win

All insect lavae are going to have a high fat content. The closer they get to their final instar the more fat they are going to contain. For salmonids this is not such a problem but even they will only be able to eat a certain percentage of insect lavae before their health is compromised.
