Anyone who has read my system thread will know that one of my long term goals is to get away from having to buy fish pellets to feed my fish. While my BSF system is up and running beautifully, it has always be a pain in the ass to separate out worms to feed to the fish, to avoid throwing in a handful of dirt everyday. So I needed to come up with something that made harvesting worms nearly as easy as BSF larvae. After a couple of completely useless ideas, I think I've done it A piece if 90mm pipe, capped on one end, perforated around the sides, the whole thing about 100mm long. Bury this up to it's lip in the worm farm, throw in some moist bread and leave it for a couple of days. The simply pull it out, tip the bread and the worms into a container, put the bread back in the harvester and put it back in the worm farm. See photos;

Thanks Ivan. I think I'm going to have 2-3 in each worm farm (2 worm farms, each is half a blue barrel, cut lengthways). That way they will get to sit for a couple of days before harvesting. When I checked the harvester after the first 24 hours there werem't many in it and I thought I was on another bummer, but another 24 hour wait paid off. |

Excellent, I think I will give that a try been hoping to start feeding some worms as a supplement. |
