i have 25 about 10cm silver perch in a 1000L system with one aprox 1 x 2m growbed thats about 3 weeks old. its starting to go a tiny bit green i know this can be normal at first but im going to lay off the feed for a few days to try and clear it up. but im just wondering how much should i really be feeding them, at the moment ive been feeding about 2 table spoons of feed a day? |

I think typically between 1-2% of body weight but that is after your system is fully cycled. To support 25 fishes, you need at least 500L of growbed (filtration). But most importantly at your stage now is to get your system cycled. Have you tested your ammonia and nitrite levels? During the system cycling stage, the ammonia levels determine the amount of food to feed, not the number of fishes. |

Laying off the feed wont stop it going green you need to cover the fish tank that will stop it going green |

Fingerlings that size probably only average about 50gms... giving a total bio-mass of about 1250gm... At a feed rate of 2%... you should be feeding about 25gms... about 2 teaspoons... not 2 tablespoons.... Shade your tank, and stop feeding... increase your pumping cycles and oxygenation if possible... This will clear your algae... Please test for ammonia, and report... along with your pH and water temperature When you resume feeding... refer to the feeding strategy below...
