Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone is keeping BFSL successfully in Melbourne? I am told our climate is not the best for them. Anyone have any input, experience with keeping them in VIC/Melb?

You certainly wouldn't have any trouble in summer addza, but they would pretty much stop through the winter. Mine have slowed down to a trickle this winter here in Perth. I spent a few years living in Mt Gambier so I've got a reasonable familiarity with your climate.

I am curious how many I might produce. I wonder if I can freeze those that are unused for winter supply.

you can freeze them, Chillidude gave me a bag full when he was down, still in freezer, we are in the south west of WA and about the same level as you, I had about 2 months of getting them but not much harvesting, blowies ended taking over, I let a lot of BSF larvae go and will try again in a year or so to see if we had success increasing the population, things may be slightly different over your way but climate has a big effect
