Obviously I'm not eating the fish but I was just wondering if there would be a difference in "fertilizing" quality for the plants between using the pellets you folks use for a pure food system as opposed to someone like me who is using pet-fish food bought from a pet store.

Aquarium style fish food is crap. It does not have much protein.

You need to be using a proper growout fish food, to suit the fish you have.

Will there be a significant impact on plant growth if I stick with the pet fish food?

Define "significant"....

Possibly... as OBO said... it's usually low protein.. but given your fish are aquaria fish which probably dont need high protein feed... and aren't being "pushed" to grow...

Also, most "commercial" pellet feeds contain amino acids, vitamins, minerals and trace elements... needed for fish growout... but possibly not contained within cheap aquaria feeds..

Then your plants will be limited to the amount of fish wastes they produce... and possibly by the number stocked...

I have seen first hand the difference in plant growth between feeding aquarium feeds, and growout feeds.

Ozzie, I've read you mention this before. Could you give some brand names? Will they be available for purchase in a large pet store? If not, where do you buy them (I'm in US)?
