| Post subject: | Barra spit out new pellets |
Guys, Got some barra & feed from Rup 6 weeks agao. The small feed went very quickly, then I opened the Grobest 4 mm bag barra floating. For a week barra have been completely disinterested. Tried all sorts of things. Wetting so they were softer and slowly sink, added anchovy oil to give that fishy smell/ flavour, crushed them to make it easier to wolf down, mixed with trout pellets for a smagasbord, hunger for desperation. The barra are hungry and rise when they see me, no fear of my fingers, 1 or 2 give the pellets a nudge but spit-tooie and then return to the bottom to sulk. Anyone have other ideas that might get them onto these pellets. The bag is intact and plastic bag seals the pellets inside so I'm happy that the pellets aren't off. Might have to try another brand. I'm concerned they are going to feed of each other, if not already. F |

I think the feed you got from Rupe was 3mm sinking Grobest pellets, did you start feeding half and half when you started to run out of the small pellets as I think that would help the change over, On another thought I see that you are in Newcastle how were your water temps, here at Windsor the last week temps have dropped right down and my tanks are only at 23c my Barra have only been eating less than half of what they were taking the week before they might show more interest as it gets a bit warmer. |

Yep, the 3mm was a Grobest... as is the 4mm... so there's no real difference in the feed.... Certainly last week the tank temps are way down... and if under 20 degrees the Barra will be off the bite... How much have they grown Frank... what size are they now??? Anyone else having any trouble... (I'll ring around Frank |

Rup, good questions. What I took for spitting out was infact the pellets are too large for the barra. Otherwise they may have choked. So no need to panic. I Spent more time crushing/grading through a colandar and they are feeding well. A bit too much dust, but I shouldn't have feed them so much before and would still had small pellets left. You'd think I would have learnt by now. Thanks to all for the helpful comments and assistance F |
