Ok guys...No Joke... A friend told me he has been using rabbit manure as fish food for about 3 years with great success to his fish and plants. He has a hutch built over his fish holding tank. Does anyone else know anything about this.. I looked it up on the net and there are other sites that mention using rabbit manure as fish food.. Any thoughts? |

I've heard of it but never liked the idea of mixing a warm blooded animal with a cold one. |

Good question or revival of the question... I have got a pet rabbit we bought years ago, a bit neglected now that we have a dog and a toddler... but the only place I have dump its poo and crap is in the worm farm... Well if we can feed these to fishes as well, it is a bonus... How about yabbies?? Since it is vegetable matter, the yabbies should take it right?? If so, I don't need to buy marron pellets for them anymore... |

My trout didnt touch the rabbit poop at all but now that the waters warming up and the silvers are starting to eat Im going to try get them on it again |

I breed rabbits for meet to give the family a change from home grown fish and I think the best way to feed the rabbits poo to fish is in the form of a worm! worms are high in protien and a great feed item for both fish and crustations = yabbies and marron. I cuuld be wrong but i think worms are 75% protien. |

If youre going to convert rabbit poop to worms , you might aswell convert it to black soldier flies instead |

Tilapia will eat their own poop, especially the young ones they will try to eat everything. First I will say that yes, in extensive aquaculture where they want green water, farm animal manure has been used as a fertilizer source in the fish ponds to help get an algae bloom. I don't know how much danger there is from this since we generally cook fresh water fish before eating so salmonella and e. coli are not a huge danger from just the fish out of these systems. Keep in mind I said extensive aquaculture (not growing any raw eaten veggies from this.) When we start talking about Aquaponics, it becomes more important that we don't start adding possible pathogen sources to our AP systems since most of us like raw salad and no amount of washing can remove something that has been drawn up inside the lettuce with the water. Now we don't share any diseases with cold blooded fish but when you start placing un-composted warm blooded animal manure into a food system, you risk contamination from e. coli and salmonella. I agree with those who recommend feeding the bunny berries to the worms or BSF larva and then feed the worms or BSF larva to the fish. Keep in mind that both worms and BSF larva are kinda high in fat for most fish to eat as the primary part of their diet without rendering out at least some of the fat. Now if you really want to let another animal find food from the bunny berries, let the ducks or chickens root through the pile of bunny berries to find the bugs. Apparently Muscovy Ducks are especially good to let live under the rabbit hutches. |

The point is ,, MOST fish do eat POOP ,, I choose not to eat fish that are feeding on poop:) It's a personal choice , same as eating huimans ,, I prefer not ,, but if I was hungry enough i may well change my mind:) Rupert looks like a decent meal:)
