Hi,

I plan to breed mealworms one question if for example I have an excess in terms of mealworms and they transformed to beetles already can I feed this to my Tilapias? also the larvae?

Mealworms... probably... the beetles, maybe if you crush them...

There's been discussion of mealworms before... and from memory, something was said about not using them as the sole diet... :dontknow:

mealworm beetles have a scent to them that most animals don't *-*like.they also have alot of chitin(hard exoskeleton)that might cause problems in the long run.mealworms generally are very poor nutritional food items for any animal and should be given as a treat

giants are better but can bite,not as easy to culture

Our Willie Wagtails love mealworms. We have a whole family trained at being hand fed. (Dear Husband) Eddy must have too much time on his hands and clearly not enough work to do when I am not at home. :roll: :dontknow:

THey are not bad food but they are incredibly fatty. As part of a diet they could have a role but it would depend on what you are feeding them to. Salmonids like a lot of fat in their diet but if you are feeding mealworm, maggots and other high fat foods even with trout you caould have a problem.
