Post subject:  What do you store your fish food in?
Before I trot off to the local hardware store and pickup something random that might work I thought I would ask what everyone else is using for fish food storage.

Ideally I will be keeping mine outside in a carport of sorts that houses the fish part of the aquaponics system so it would need to be vermin proof as I can't guarantee the pythons will find the mice/rats before they eat through plastic :)

I keep mine in a galvanized trash can, also under a carport/ shade structure. I keep it in the bag,and it barely fits when it's full, but it does the job.
I've seen some like this that are designed for feed, with a metal piece that swings up and over the lid, but a regular one has been good for me. So far, for about a year, no insect or vermin issues. I used to keep it in the bag in the shed, but insects eventually found it.

That was my initial thought a galvanised trash can, I know the lids you are talking about also, but have only seen them on plastic bins although if I get extra paranoid i can put a brick on the lid i suppose :)

Yes, bricks are always a good tool for when paranoia strikes! I keep a stack just in case....

Bungee cords might work as well. Heavy duty metal chain?? Depends on the vermin....

Half a system at the moment 1000L IBC with 110 Murray Cod fingerlings (minus however many eat each other), two 200L drums as radial flow settlers, two 200L drums with roughly 50,000 bottle caps as MBBR, into 1000L IBC Sump.

Can't go any further on the vegetable side until I can find a crane to move a shipping container (the vegetables will be grown in a shipping container) will post it up when I get a chance and it gets a little further along as right now i'm frantically changing this or that as I find I miscalculated something or other :)

For example, if you are going to run a 10,000LPH water pump to the DWC beds and fish tank, don't run it to only the fish tank without a T to simulate the extra feed with only 40mm pipes or everything starts to overflow :)

I use food grade 20 litre buckets with tight fitting lids. One 20kg bag of skrettings fills 2 buckets, keeps the pellets nice and fresh. I then refill a 5 litre bucket for daily feeding.

I have those totes with the rubber seal and locking lids. But its also on a screaned in porch next to the system. We have local wild life that will sneak into but the porch door keeps them at bay. Those darn duck are the worst. The raccoons atleast run away from a flash light and don't make a noise. Those ducks sound like a bull a in a China shop and will sit there eating it while I swat them with a broom.

I keep my fish food in a galvanized trash can. Lid fits tight and a bit difficult for the squirrels to try to chew through it. Be advised, tho, the lid will leak where the handle is fastened through the lid. Doesn't take much to deal it up and keep the food dry.
