Post subject:  vegetarian feed for grass carp

Hi all,

In a few days my grass carp for my first IBC system will arrive. I read that they can eat up to half their body weight per day. I did the following equation:

aw = average weight over lifespan of fish till ready for consumption (2 years, from 500 grams to 2 kilos, so 1250 grams)
fwr = feed to weight ratio. So apparently this is 0.5/day
dtc = days till consumption (2 years=730 days)
p = price per kilo of feed, i found this at 3 euros per kilo

this gives me aw*fwr*dtc*p=1.250*0.5*730*3=1368 euros. So that would definitely give me the most expensive fish on my dinner plate ever. I feel I am doing something wrong but for the life of me can't figure it out. I hope the fwr is very wrong or you guys can tell me what i can feed the grass carp so that the p (price) per kilo of feed can be lowered immensely.

thanks in advance!

Wolffia arrhiza or duckweed. I have zero experience with fish but my Google foo lead me to read the following article out of curiosity :

https://thefishsite.com/articles/cultur ... grass-carp

If your going to grow those feeds use a separate tank with slow moving water to culture those aquatic feeds.
